i LOLed for real re: your last comment about search companies and mayors.
your discussion and Michael Sauers comments helped me realize that i’m asking for many different things in my little mockup. much of it, like a halfway decent interface, good URLs, and RSS really wouldn’t take vendors any time at all to deal with.
the persistent spaces and social stuff is more of a challenge to be sure, but not insurmountable.
i’m also interested in the question about who would use the advanced features, shall we say, of something like this. so much of what i talk about is pubic library focused, but it is probably obvious i see this having academic library implications.
the public library audience of the future might be interested in something like my social database. this article has only one data point, but i like how it mentions people growing up from myspace to blogger:

there might be something to that, and likewise they might grow into tools like the one i mocked up. if we have them…
